This program provides additional funding to help athletes train and compete in clinics and events (including school provincial championships) across the province. In 2010-11, $600,000 is being distributed to athletes and school teams, with a portion of this already allocated.
How to Access: Funding is distributed to provincial sport organizations based on youth membership size. In the case of disability sports, distribution is based on membership size. Provincial Sport Organizations determine how funding is distributed based on annual priorities and need (e.g. training camps, provincial championships, preparation for Games, regional events). Details on travel grants for school teams will be announced in early 2011.
Some types of travel is also supported through gaming grants – community and provincial sport groups can apply through www.mem.gov.bc.ca/gaming
The application period is annually, February through May. Sport BC also offers discounts and travel grants (e.g. for Sporting Life on the Coast, a partnership with BC Ferry Corporation) through its website www.sport.bc.ca
