The Ministry of Community and Rural Development provides
infrastructure funding to local governments through a variety of grant programs.
For more detailed information on funding for local governments please consult the
Local Government Grants Act and regulations. Hard copies of these

Grant Programs
B.C. Community Water Improvement Program
- Provincial funding program to improve water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Program fully allocated.
Building Canada Fund
- Communities Component
- Provincial and Federal funding for infrastructure works.
- Application intake closed - all successful projects have been announced. Funding for this program is now fully committed.
Canada/BC Infrastructure Program
- Provincial and Federal funding for infrastructure works.
- Program fully allocated.
Canada/BC Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund
- Provincial and Federal funding for infrastructure works.
- Program fully allocated.
Community Recreation Program
- Provincial funding for local government capital projects that make
communities healthier, more active places in which to live.
- Application intake closed - all successful projects have been
announced. Funding for this program is now fully committed.
Infrastructure Planning Grant Program
- Provincial funding program for long-term plans and assessment studies to support local government infrastructure.
- Ongoing intake for applications.
Infrastructure Stimulus Fund
- Federal and Provincial funding for construction-ready infrastructure projects to provide short-term stimulus to the economy.
- Application intake closed - all successful projects have been announced. Funding for this program is now fully committed.
LocalMotion
- Provincial funding program for bike paths, walkways and greenways and
building seniors-friendly and disability-friendly communities.
- Year 1 grants announced.
- Year 2 grants announced.
- Year 3 grants announced - Funding for this program is now fully committed.
Spirit Squares
- Provincial funding program for capital projects to create/improve outdoor public meeting and
celebration spaces.
- Application intake closed - all successful applicants have been announced. Funding for this program is now fully committed.
