Re: Voting Strength as a Result of 2011 Census

In accordance with section 783 of the Local Government Act, the population used for the purpose of determining the voting strength and number of Directors on the Regional District Board includes persons residing on Indian Reserves.

The recently issued 2011 census figures for municipalities and electoral areas do not include Indian Reserve populations.

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development will prepare the required municipal and electoral area populations for the purpose of regional district voting for the Minister to certify. When this is completed, you will receive formal notification of the population figures to be used for the purpose of regional district voting. The notification will also include the effective date of any changes, which will likely be
December 1, 2012.

Until the changes are effective, voting strength and number of directors should not be adjusted based on the results of the 2011 Census.
