Cathy McGregor (2000)

Cathy McGregorCathy McGregor, the 22nd minister, held the position between March and October 2000. McGregor presided over the enactment of Bill 14, which marked the completion of a multi-year process of legislative reform, resulting in the Municipal Act becoming the Local Government Act. The Bill also made provisions that enabled the Islands Trust to grant tax exemptions to private landowners who agree to preserve natural habitat.

McGregor was elected to the Legislative Assembly as the NDP MLA for Kamloops in 1996. Prior to assuming the Municipal Affairs portfolio, she had been the Minister of Environment, Lands and Parks. In November 2000, McGregor moved from Municipal Affairs to become the Minister of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and the Minister Responsible for Youth.
