Blair Lekstrom (2008-2009)

Blair LekstromIn June 2008, Blair Lekstrom became the 26th minister. As the Minister of Community Development, he was responsible for both local government and rural economic development. Lekstrom oversaw the creation of the Rural Secretariat and community governance changes, such as the Atlin Community Improvement District. He also launched the Trees for Tomorrow program. In a special sitting of the legislature, he introduced legislation to amend the Vancouver Charter allowing the city to borrow money and undertake other financial arrangements in order to complete the Olympic Athletes' Village.

Lekstrom is the Liberal MLA for Peace River South. From 1993-1996, he served as a councillor in Dawson Creek. He became the city’s mayor in 1996. Lekstrom also served on the boards of the Peace River Regional District and the Municipal Finance Authority. He was an executive member of the North Central Municipal Association and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities. He was elected as an MLA in 2001, 2005 and 2009. Lekstrom became the Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources in January 2009, remaining in the portfolio following the B.C. Liberal's re-election in May of that year.
