Jack Heinrich (1986)
Jack
Heinrich was the tenth Minister of
Municipal Affairs (1982-1983; 1986).
During his tenure the province's
economy was
in recession and the government
enacted the Municipal Expenditure
Restraint Act. This legislation
empowered the minister to limit the
expenditures of municipalities and
regional districts. The
government also amended the Revenue
Sharing Act to authorize grants for
certain infrastructure projects.
Heinrich briefly returned to the
portfolio in 1986 following the
resignation of Bill Ritchie.
Heinrich served as the Social Credit
MLA for the riding of Prince George
North from 1979-1986. He held
several cabinet positions, including
Education, Forests, and Municipal
Affairs. Prior to entering politics
Heinrich was a commercial and real
estate lawyer. He also served as a
member of the Advisory Planning
Commission and director of the
Regional District of Fraser-Fort
George.
In 1986, he was awarded the
professional legal distinction of
Queen’s Counsel by Attorney General
Brian Smith.
