Don Sutherland


Don Sutherland started in Municipal Affairs in September 1977, as a clerk. In 1982, he started working in the Improvement District section of the Financial Services Branch. This branch was involved in the maintenance, development and conversion of improvement districts in British Columbia.

In 2003, Don became Director of the Advisory Services Branch which provides advice to local governments, produces publications to explain aspects of the local government system such as elections, implements legislative changes and remains responsible for some bylaw approvals.

   
Asked about a trip he took to Fort McMurray in 2000 to study rural municipalities, Don speaks about how the LGD is open to new ideas.
