Chris Woodward

Chris Woodward, born and educated in Victoria, during his 39 years (1949-88) in the Local Government Department, rose from office clerk to deputy minister.

Among the many highlights of his career, he participated in the spreading of the regional district system, and facilitated the amalgamation of four B.C. cities. During his ten years as inspector of municipalities he approved bylaws from municipalities across the province.

Chris loved to help local government staffs improve their administration, and enjoyed travelling into the hinterland for meetings with residents.

In this audio clip, Chris recalls the early system for protecting bylaws that had been signed by the inspector of municipalities.
