B.C. Climate Action Charter

B.C. communities commit to the goals of being carbon neutral and to create complete, compact, energy-efficient communities.

Local governments from across B.C. have joined with the Province and the Union of BC Municipalities, to find ways to tackle the challenges posed by climate change, pledging to take action to significantly cut both corporate and community-wide greenhouse gas emissions.

• November, 2011 - 180 local governments and the Islands Trust are now signatories to the B.C. Climate Action Charter.
• Read April, 2011 news release [ 304 KB] on reimbursements of $3.8 million to B.C. communities through the Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) for the carbon taxes they paid in 2010.
• Read May 4, 2010 news release on nearly $2.9 million in carbon tax dollars returned to green communities.
• Read Sept. 24, 2008 news release on the Climate Action Revenue Incentive program, a conditional grant to offset the carbon tax for local governments who have committed to become carbon neutral by 2012.
