Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development - Arts and Culture

Arts and Culture

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development develops and administers government policies and programs that support a vital and sustainable arts and cultural sector.

The Arts and Culture Branch, of the Arts, Culture and Sport Division, through policy development, strategic initiatives and fostering collaborative creative industry partnerships, supports the contribution of arts and culture to the economic and social well-being of British Columbians.

Two government agencies also help to carry out this mandate.

The British Columbia Arts Council administers operating and project support for artists and organizations, and aims to engage all British Columbians in a health arts and cultural community that is recognized for excellence.

The British Columbia Film Commission, which reports through the Arts, Culture and Sport Division, oversees production activity in the province, markets the province as a motion picture production location, and offers a full range of services and information resources for producers and production companies.
